About ERP Ireland
The European Recycling Platform (ERP), is a pan-European organisation set up in December 2002 by Braun, Electrolux, HP and Sony in response to the introduction of the European Union’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive. ERP’s mission is to ensure cost-effective implementation of this Directive through innovative waste management strategies for the benefit of participating companies, their customers, as well as the environment.
ERP was the first WEEE compliance scheme permitted to launch multiple operations and today is currently established in eleven countries across Europe – Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and the UK. As a result of its multinational recycling operations, ERP can avail of economies of scale and volume sales and passes on these benefits to its 1300 members.
ERP Ireland was established in 2005 as a result of the success and expansion of ERP across Europe. We are Ireland’s only pan-European compliance scheme, providing WEEE and Waste Battery compliance and a B2B service to members. To date we have 85 memberships and this continues to grow annually.
In 2008, we collected an average of 9.5kg of electronic waste per person in Ireland, over double the EU target of 4kg per person. This marks an impressive achievement and reflects the remarkable shift in the public’s attitude towards electronic recycling.
